Scottsdale arrest made in attempted juvenile exploitation investigation

An Avondale man was arrested after police said he tried to exploit someone he believed was a 15-year-old juvenile.

Scottsdale police said the investigation began with reports of inappropriate online communications involving someone represented as a minor.

Detectives reviewed digital evidence, served multiple search warrants and conducted follow-up work before identifying 23-year-old Xavior Vitela as the suspect.

Detectives, with help from the Special Assignments Unit, served a search warrant at Vitela’s Avondale home on Aug. 5. He was arrested without incident.

Vitela was booked into jail on suspicion of luring a minor for sexual exploitation, attempted sexual conduct with a minor and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He is being held on $100,000 bond.

Police said the investigation remains active as detectives continue to analyze evidence recovered during the search.
