PHOENIX — The Salvation Army will host a free dinner on Thanksgiving Day for Phoenix-area residents in need of a warm meal, shelter or other services.

Spokesman Scott Johnson told KTAR News 92.3 FM the organization expects to serve about 1,000 people at the Phoenix Convention Center on Thursday, and will deliver upwards of 2,400 meals to individuals who are home bound.

The annual Thanksgiving meal will feature all the fixings, Johnson said. Doors for the dinner will open at 9 a.m. and food will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

But food won’t be the only item on the menu: Attendees can get free haircuts and nail services, collect a hygiene kit, listen to live entertainment or kick back and watch the parade or football.

“There will be lots of services for the family,” Johnson said. “Join us for food, fellowship and fun.”

The dinner will be served on the third floor of the Phoenix Convention Center’s north building.

Unfortunately, Johnson said all of the volunteer spots for Thursday are full, but the Salvation Army is still in need of volunteers for their annual Christmas meal. Information on volunteer opportunities can be found at the organization’s website.
