2 dead after separate Salt River drowning incidents over holiday weekend

Two men died in separate drowning incidents at the Salt River during Memorial Day weekend, authorities said.

In the first case, deputies responded to reports of a missing person at the Salt River about 3:15 p.m. Saturday, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.

About 12:15 p.m. Sunday, deputies found the body of 22-year-old Sahr Sewah.

According to a GoFundMe campaign set up on behalf of his family, Sewah, who recently graduated from Arizona State University, drowned while tubing down the river with friends.

The second Salt River drowning occurred Monday morning about a half-mile downstream from the Stewart Mountain Dam at Saguaro Lake.

About 10:40 a.m., deputies responded to reports of a man struggling in the middle of the river. They searched the area and found the body of 23-year-old Jason Blake Jr.
