Sales top $10 million at Russo and Steele car auction in Scottsdale

PHOENIX — A long-running annual Valley car auction saw total sales reach each eight-digit figures.

The 2020 Russo and Steele Collector Automobile Auctions grossed more than $10.7 million in sales during the Jan. 15-19 event in Scottsdale, according to a press release.

More than 500 cars went to auction during the five days at the 20-acre site on Scottsdale Road just south of the Loop 101 Pima Freeway.

The big seller was a limited edition 1957 Mercedes-Benz 300SL, which sold for $1.045 million.

Coming in second at roughly half the cost was a 1971 Ferrari Daytona that sold for $550,000.

The next tier of cars saw an approximate 50% drop-off as well, as it took $258,500 for a bidder to claim a 1956 Porsche 356 Speedster as their own.

1966 Ford Mustang Shelby — $156,750

1973 Lamborghini Espada Series III — $140,000

1959 Chevrolet Corvette — $126,000

2013 Mclaren MP4-12C — $118,250

1958 Desoto Firesweep — $115,500

A 1965 Shelby Cobra replica was also donated and sold for $60,000, all of which went to national nonprofit Folds of Honor, an organization that provides educational scholarships to children and spouses of fallen or disabled military members.

“This was the picture-perfect location for Arizona Car Week,” Drew Alcazar, auction president and CEO of Russo and Steele said in a press release.

“The excitement at returning to this spot was palpable as night after night the cars crossed the block to a standing room only crowd.”
