SAFE Alert canceled: 72-year-old woman found after possible sighting in Avondale

Yolanda Garcia, a 72-year-old woman who was the subject of a SAFE Alert out of Phoenix issued Saturday, has been found safe and reunited with her family.

According to the initial alert, Garcia was last seen on foot around 8:15 a.m. Saturday near Durango Street and 99th Avenue. She was wearing a blue shirt with an unidentified white graphic, black capri-style pants and flip-flops.

The alert also noted a possible sighting around 11:30 a.m. near Avondale Boulevard and Buckeye Road in Avondale.

Authorities initially described Garcia as Hispanic, 5 feet 2 inches tall and weighing 110 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. The alert said she has a medical condition that can cause her to become confused and easily lost.

SAFE Alerts have replaced Silver Alerts in Arizona as a way to spread the word about missing persons who are 65 and older and missing persons who have dementia or developmental/cognitive disabilities.
