Arizona’s 1st SAFE Alert canceled after missing West Valley man located

PHOENIX – Authorities canceled Arizona’s first SAFE Alert on Friday night after a missing West Valley man was located.

When the alert for 54-year-old William Cope was issued Friday afternoon, he hadn’t been seen since around 10 a.m. Thursday near Greenway Road and 140th Drive in Surprise.

Cope is described as 5 feet, 9 inches tall and 145 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. He has a medical condition that can cause him to become lost or easily confused.

No clothing description was available, but he usually wears a baseball cap.

What is a SAFE Alert?

SAFE Alerts have replaced Silver Alerts in Arizona as way to spread the word about missing persons 65 and older or those who suffer from dementia or developmental/cognitive disabilities.

The new system went into effect on Friday.
