SAFE Alert canceled after 62-year-old Phoenix man located in Avondale

A SAFE Alert issued earlier this week for a missing Phoenix man was canceled Thursday, authorities said.

Howard Harrison, 62, is safe after officers with the Avondale Police Department located him in Avondale. He was unharmed and taken to an area hospital for evaluation as a precaution.

When the alert was issued July 8, Harrison had last been seen that day near 20th Street and Thomas Road around 12:30 a.m. He was in his black wheelchair when he left his assisted living group home.

Harrison has a medical condition that can cause him to easily become lost or confused.

He was described as a Black man around 5 feet, 5 inches tall, weighing 247 pounds, with black eyes and a bald head with some gray fuzz.

SAFE Alerts have replaced Silver Alerts in Arizona as a way to spread the word about missing persons who are 65 and older and missing persons who have dementia or developmental or cognitive disabilities.
