SAFE Alert canceled after authorities find missing 68-year-old Mesa man

PHOENIX — A 68-year-old man who went missing in Mesa on Sunday morning, triggering a SAFE Alert, has been located, authorities said.

Marcos Luna Castillo was was taken to a hospital to be checked out Monday and will go home afterward, according to the Mesa Police Department.

Castillo hadn’t been seen since around 5:30 a.m. Sunday, when he left his home near Center Street and McKellips Road.

He was described as 5 feet, 5 inches tall and 130 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a dark green puffy jacket, blue jeans, light brown boots and a hat with a military emblem.

Castillo has a medical condition that causes him to appear lost or confused, according the SAFE Alert.

SAFE Alerts have replaced Silver Alerts in Arizona as way to spread the word about missing persons who are 65 and older and missing persons who have dementia or developmental/cognitive disabilities.
