SAFE Alert canceled after 67-year-old man last seen in Gilbert found dead on reservation

A 67-year-old man who was the subject of a SAFE Alert out of Gilbert was found dead on the Gila River Indian Reservation nearly two weeks after he went missing, authorities said Thursday.

Keith Edwards was found dead on the reservation on June 24. Authorities said there were no signs of suspicious circumstances around his death.

Edwards, who was visiting from Florida, was previously last seen on June 11 near Cooper and Warner roads, according to the alert. Authorities believed he left the house he was staying at overnight on foot.

“Our hearts are with Keith’s family, friends and loved ones during this difficult time,” the Gilbert Police Department said in a statement.

SAFE Alerts have replaced Silver Alerts in Arizona as a way to spread the word about missing persons who are 65 and older and missing persons who have dementia or developmental/cognitive disabilities.
