Authorities canceled a SAFE alert Sunday after a missing 41-year-old man was found safe.

The Avondale Police Department said Cesar Varela Rodriguez is being reunited with his family and is in good health.

When the alert was first issued, authorities said Varela Rodriguez was last seen on foot in Avondale on Saturday night leaving a residence in the 900 block of South 9th Street, near Dysart Road and Main Street, according to the Department of Public Safety.

Authorities said Varela Rodriguez requires medication for cognitive disabilities and functions with the mental capacity of a 15-year-old.

SAFE Alerts have replaced Silver Alerts in Arizona as a way to spread the word about missing persons who are 65 and older and missing persons who have dementia or developmental/cognitive disabilities.
