SAFE Alert canceled after nonverbal 25-year-old Scottsdale man found safe

Authorities canceled a SAFE Alert on Friday after a missing 25-year-old Scottsdale man who is nonverbal and has a cognitive disability was found safe.

Michael Kaupanger was located at about 4:30 p.m. this afternoon near 64th Street and Mayo Boulevard. Kaupanger was evaluated by EMS personnel and returned to his family. Prior to being found, he was last seen about 8 p.m. Thursday in the area of Scottsdale Road and Sutton Drive, an estimated 4 miles away.

Kaupanger is described as 6 feet, 2 inches tall and 160 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair.

SAFE Alerts have replaced Silver Alerts in Arizona as a way to spread the word about missing persons who are 65 and older and missing persons who have dementia or developmental/cognitive disabilities.
