Traffic building after road closures for Charlie Kirk memorial began Saturday

PHOENIX — Heavy traffic has been building Sunday morning as thousands head to Charlie Kirk’s memorial at Glendale’s State Farm Stadium after road closures for began on Saturday, authorities said.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety announced on Sunday morning that the Glendale off-ramp from the Loop 101 Agua Fria Freeway has been closed both north and southbound directions for the event.

According to the Glendale Police Department, streets around the stadium closed as early as 10 a.m. Saturday.

In a social media post, the department encouraged attendees to be patient, respect one another and create a safe atmosphere.

What roads will be closed for the Charlie Kirk memorial?

Cardinals Way will be closed from 91st to 99th avenues.

Maryland Avenue will be closed from west of 95th Avenue to 91st Avenue.

In addition, 99th Avenue will be closed from Maryland to Glendale avenues and 95th Avenue will be closed from Entertainment Boulevard to Maryland Avenue.

Finally, 93rd Avenue will be closed from Entertainment Boulevard to Maryland Avenue.

Glendale PD spokesman Jose Santiago told KTAR News 92.3 FM that there will be “Super Bowl” level security at the service.

The heightened security is due to the high-profile nature of Kirk’s death, the dignitaries in attendance and a possible attendance of 100,000 people.
