Residents in metro Phoenix wake up to second straight morning of rain

PHOENIX — If you thought one morning of rain in the Valley in May was rare, how about two mornings?

That’s right, some residents in metro Phoenix woke up to a second straight morning of light rain coating the streets.

Unlike Tuesday’s one-hundredth of an inch, much of the rain that fell on Wednesday wasn’t enough to be measured, but it was still something.

And showers returned during Wednesday evening’s commute — and more are possible more into the weekend.

“We will take whatever we can get this time of year,” Mark O’Malley with National Weather Service in Phoenix told KTAR News 92.3 FM. 

“It’s probably better off than having 105 degrees.”

It’s possible that this May, despite only being eight days in, could be one of the wettest in Valley history.

O’Malley said the metro Phoenix area “typically only gets one-hundredth or two (of an inch of rain) each May. Many Mays we see none at all.

“This time of year, we don’t expect much rain at all, so anything we get is progress.”
