Report: Waste Management Phoenix Open adding suites, boxes along 17th hole

PHOENIX — The 16th hole at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, known as the rowdiest in professional golf, is reportedly getting a little brother.

The Phoenix Business Journal reports tournament organizers have decided to add new luxury suites and boxes along the course’s par-four 17th hole for the upcoming year. The suites and boxes will take the place of some of the large corporate tents that used to line the hole.

The boxes and suites range from $55,000 to $110,000 to rent. They come at a steep price, but people are apparently willing to pay it: There’s already a wait list for the sold-out additions.

More general admission seating is also being added along 17.

Open Chairman Dan Mahoney told the Journal that organizers are also adding more space on the 16th hole as well.

“We will have 250 skyboxes on the 16th hole this year. That includes a count of 20 new upper-level boxes on the green and five new loge boxes,” he said. “Those numbers will include a total of 16 loge suites, including the Golf Channel studio, which range in price from $150,000 to $200,000 for 80 badges.”

The 2016 Phoenix Open is scheduled to begin Monday, Feb. 1.
