Report: Crime is down in Peoria

Crime is down in the city of Peoria.

Police recently presented the latest report to the city council. They noted major crime, like aggravated assault, went down 32 percent between 2011 and 2016. Crime decreased 6.4 percent between April and May.

“Some new technology helps us focus better on where we believe crime is more likely to occur,” said Jay Davies, deputy director of management services for the Peoria Police Department. “It helps us to put our resources in the right place.”

Davies also said body cams on police officers help.

The report also shows calls for service went down 14.2 percent over the last five years.
