Rep. Matt Salmon lines up support for ‘anti-amnesty’ spending bill

PHOENIX — Rep. Matt Salmon (R-Ariz.) said going it alone on immirgation reform by President Barack Obama could stand in the way of a permanent solution.

“It’s not going be beneficial for America,” Salmon said. “It is unconstitutional and he’s going to poison the water for any good thing from happening regarding that issue.”

Salmon said the president doesn’t have the authority to bring about immigration reform on his own. Worse yet, Salmon said, the president knows he doesn’t have that authority.

“When the immigration advocates have lobbied him on this issue, time and time again he’s said ‘I don’t have that authority, I wish I did.’ The guy was a constitutional professor. He understands the law and yet he’s willingly violating his oath of office?”

Salmon said more than 60 House Republicans have signed his letter calling for a pre-emptive strike — legislation to bar use of federal money to legalize undocumented immigrants.
