Remains of missing Arizona woman with Down syndrome found in desert

PHOENIX – Authorities have identified skeletal remains found in the desert in southern Arizona as a woman with Down syndrome who went missing nearly a year ago.

Pima County Sheriff’s Department said Thursday the remains are of 38-year-old Sarah Galloway, who was reported missing in March 2019.

The cause of death has not yet been determined.

Galloway, who authorities said functioned at an 8-year-old level, was last seen March 21 at her home in Avra Valley.

A Silver Alert was activated, and search-and-rescue teams spent a week actively trying to find her.

The remains were found Feb. 12 in a desert area in Picture Rocks, about 20 miles northwest of Tucson.
