Registration begins for 2020 Pat’s Run in Tempe; tickets likely to sell out

PHOENIX — Get out your racing shoes and patriotic gear — it’s almost time for Pat’s Run.

Registration for the annual 4.2-mile run in Tempe honoring Pat Tillman, the Arizona football player and soldier who was killed in Afghanistan, is underway.

Prices for the April 18 race, which has sold out each of the last three years, are their lowest Tuesday at $42. Tickets bought Wednesday through Jan. 17 jump to $45.

The cost rises in $2-$3 increments every two weeks as the race gets closer, ending March 31 at $60.

Children up to age 12 can also register for a 0.42-mile race for $10 until March 31, then for $12 on April 1-18.

The full race beings at 7:05 a.m. and winds through the streets of Tempe, ending on the 42-yard line inside Sun Devil Stadium.

The Pat Tillman Foundation also holds offshoot races in 37 cities, including Flagstaff, Pinetop and Tucson.

Proceeds from Pat’s Run support the Tillman Scholars program, which serves active duty service members, veterans and military spouses.

Tillman was a former Arizona State University and Arizona Cardinals football player who was killed in Afghanistan in 2004 after giving up his NFL career to join the U.S. Army.
