Registered sex offender from Phoenix accused of trying to lure 14-year-old girl for sex

PHOENIX — A registered sex offender from Phoenix has been arrested after allegedly trying to lure a 14-year-old girl for sex, according to authorities.

Aaron Salazar allegedly started communicating with the victim over social media, according to a Monday announcement from the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO).

The 55-year-old, who is currently on probation in Maricopa County, then moved the inappropriate conversation to text messages, according to YCSO.

Detectives with the northern Arizona sheriff’s office located him in Phoenix, where he was arrested without incident.

From there, Salazar was brought to Yavapai County Jail in Prescott. He currently faces charges of luring a minor for sexual exploitation.

After arrest of registered sex offender, YCSO shares advice for parents

In announcing Salazar’s arrest, authorities urged parents and guardians to have open, frequent conversations about internet safety with the children in their care.

YCSO advised parents to check their children’s devices for hidden messages and unfamiliar apps, to regularly monitor their social media accounts and online activity and to remind young people never to share personal information with strangers online.

There are several resources available to help parents keep their children safe online. Earlier this year, the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office launched a website designed to help parents learn how to protect their children from online predators.
