Gilbert ranked as top place to raise family in Arizona, 8th best in US

Gilbert was recently ranked as one of the top ten places to raise a family in the country.

PHOENIX — Gilbert was recently ranked as one of the top ten places to raise a family in the country.

A study from WalletHub looked into 182 U.S. cities and focused on benchmarks such as family-friendly activities, cost of housing, school rankings and health care systems.

Gilbert was Arizona’s top entry on the list, coming at No. 8. The East Valley town was ranked fourth for socioeconomic status, 14th for affordability and 16th for health and safety.

How did other Arizona cities stack up to raise a family?

Scottsdale came in not too far behind in at No.12, and Chandler was at No. 23. Scottsdale scored highest in affordability and socioeconomic status.

Scottsdale tends to fare well in WalletHub rankings. The city came in at No. 8 on the website’s list of happiest cities and No. 3 for best credit scores.

The other Arizona cities ranked were Peoria (49th), Phoenix (93rd), Mesa (98th), Tempe (99th), Glendale (139th) and Tucson (150th).

Fremont, California, came in as the top place to have a family. Overland Park, Kansas; Plano, Texas; Irvine, California and South Burlington, Vermont rounded out the top five places to raise a family.

The two worst cities were Memphis, Tennessee, and Detroit, Michigan.
