Rainfall reaches Phoenix area as monsoon storm hits

PHOENIX — The National Weather Service issued multiple thunderstorm warnings as rain hit parts of the Valley on Wednesday.

Thunderstorms initially lingered around areas outside of the Phoenix metropolitan area, but rain soon hit Scottsdale, Surprise and Carefree on Wednesday evening. Carefree had received nearly an inch of rain as of about 7 p.m.

The National Weather Service also warned of some minor flooding in the northern half of the Phoenix area.

The rain seemed to have cleared up in areas near the Valley by about 7:00 p.m.
