Pump pay day: Expect lower gas prices to continue in Arizona

PHOENIX — Drivers in Arizona can likely plan to pump more money into holiday spending than gas tanks, a fuel price analyst said Tuesday.

“All 50 states are reporting a drop in gas prices in the past week,” Patrick DeHann with GasBuddy.com said. “There’s no mystery behind it: Crude oil prices are below $40 a barrel.”

At least half of the nation is paying $2.50 per gallon. DeHann said 95 percent of Americans can expect similar or lower prices by Halloween with lows hitting $2 per gallon around Christmas. Last year, at least one Phoenix gas station saw drivers paying under $2 per gallon for gas.

“There will be a seasonal drop off in demand as temperatures cool across the country and drivers will cut back their recreational use of gas and that will bring lower demand,” he said.

DeHann said the lower price trend will have an effect in Arizona, where drivers are already paying 20 cents less than they were one month ago.

DeHann said the the only obstacle to the drip in gas prices would be a problem with the nation’s refineries.
