PHOENIX — The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office said a man suspected of striking a victim several times with a hardened piece of wood unprompted turned himself in on Friday.
Robert David Pearsall, 41, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon when his strikes caused severe swelling, laceration and blood loss to the head and face of the 45-year-old victim.
The victim was in and out of consciousness as he was airlifted to Flagstaff Medical Center.
The sheriff’s office said the attack was unprovoked and without warning.
Pearsall, a Prescott resident, fled the Verde River camp site after being confronted by witnesses, the sheriff’s office said.
After turning himself in, Pearsall was released from Camp Verde Detention Center on a $20,000 bond, the sheriff’s office said.
