8 Arizona Powerball players win at least $50K over Labor Day weekend as jackpot swells to $1.3B

PHOENIX – The Powerball jackpot has ballooned to an estimated $1.3 billion after going unclaimed over Labor Day weekend.

However, eight Arizona tickets were close enough over the last two drawings to generate prizes of at least $50,000.

On Saturday, tickets from the following five Arizona locations matched four of the five white balls — 3, 18, 22, 27 and 33 — plus the red Powerball of 17 to win $50,000:

• Terrible’s at 1040 S. Acoma Blvd. in Lake Havasu City.
• Fry’s Fuel Center at 2915 N. Dysart Road in Avondale.
• Walmart at 13770 W. Bell Road in Surprise.
• Fry’s Food Store at 3616 E. Ray Road in Phoenix.
• Bashas’ at 15367 W. Waddell Road in Surprise.

The hits kept coming on Monday, when tickets from the following three Arizona outlets matched four of the five white balls — 8, 23, 25, 40 and 53 — plus the Powerball of 5.

• Desert Springs Travel Center at 4031 Fleet St. in Littlefield.
• Fry’s Marketplace at 16400 N. Pat Tillman Blvd. in Surprise.
• R and G Mini Mart at 12239 NW Grand Ave. in El Mirage.

Two of Monday’s winners tripled their winnings to $150,000 by opting for the $1 Power Play option.

The Power Play multiplier amount is randomly selected before each drawing and increases prizes other than the jackpot by two, three, four, five or 10 times.

How large is the Powerball jackpot?

Powerball is a multistate game of chance with drawings every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday night. Entries cost $2 and can be purchased at over 3,000 retailers around Arizona.

No one has matched all six numbers since May 31, allowing the jackpot to swell to an estimated $1.3 billion, which would be the fifth-largest prize in the game’s history if there is a winner in the next drawing on Wednesday night.

Payments for a jackpot would be spread over 30 years. A winner also can choose an immediate lump sum in cash before taxes, which now stands at $589 million.

The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are one in over 292 million.
