Pompeii exhibit to open at Arizona Science Center

PHOENIX — “Pompeii: The Exhibition,” an exhibit on the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, is coming to the Arizona Science Center next month.

A volcanic eruption in 79 A.D. caused much of Pompeii, a Roman city, to become preserved and frozen in volcanic debris. The exhibit gives visitors a look at that preservation through various mediums, including more than 200 artifacts that will be on display from Italy’s National Archaeological Museum.

A statement from the science center said the exhibit will allow guests to “become time travelers, transported to the bustling commercial port and strategic military and trading center of Pompeii.”

“In perhaps the most powerful portion of the exhibition, exquisite body casts of adults and children will vividly communicate the emotions of the victims,” the statement read.

“Pompeii: The Exhibition” will open on Nov. 18 and run through May 28 of next year. Tickets are $11.95 for adults and $9.95 for children.

The Arizona Science Center is located along Washington Street in downtown Phoenix.
