Poll: Majority of Arizonans think Gov. Doug Ducey shouldn’t be re-elected

PHOENIX — Arizonans aren’t crazy about the job Gov. Doug Ducey has been doing during his first term, according to a new poll.

Only 26 percent of the state’s voters think the Republican deserves to be re-elected, according to an NBC News/Marist poll released Wednesday.

In a survey conducted June 17-21, 59 percent of respondents said somebody new should be given a chance at the position. Fifteen percent were unsure.

More than a third of his own party, 34 percent, favored giving somebody else a chance, while 43 percent of Republicans said he should be re-elected. Twenty-three percent were unsure.

The opposition party was strongly against Ducey, with 74 percent saying somebody else should have a chance and 14 percent favoring his re-election. Thirteen percent were unsure.

Independents weren’t much better for Ducey, with 67 percent opposed, 24 percent in his favor and 9 percent unsure.

The poll didn’t ask about Ducey’s potential opponents. Former Secretary of State Ken Bennett is challenging Ducey in the August GOP primary.

There are three candidates in the Democratic primary, state Sen. Steve Farley, education professor David Garcia and nonprofit CEO Kelly Fryer, a former minister.
