Police investigating shooting at group home that leaves boy in critical condition

PHOENIX — Phoenix police are investigating a shooting that took place a local boys group home that left a young male in critical condition, authorities said.

Police responded to a call around 2 a.m. Thursday of a single shot being fired in the area of 19th Avenue and Mountain View Road.

Upon arrival, officers began speaking to individuals at the group home, according to a press release.

Medical aid was provided to a juvenile male resident of the home who was shot. The victim was taken to a local hospital and is being treated for life-threatening injuries.

Police later arrested a 17-year-old male suspect, also a resident of the group home, for aggravated assault and weapon charges, the release said.

The investigation remains ongoing.
