Police investigating fatal shooting at Peoria residence

PHOENIX — Police are investigating the deaths of two people in Peoria early Saturday.

According to the Peoria Police Department, officers responded to a call about a shooting at a residence near 78th Drive and Mescal Street at approximately 4 a.m.

Upon arrival, police found 52-year-old Walter Mitchell with gunshot wounds and pronounced him dead.

They also found a 42-year-old Susie Ephrem who’d been shot. Ephrem was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and later was pronounced dead there.

No arrests have been made. The suspect is still outstanding, and detectives are still working to identify who was involved. 

Detectives believe forced entry was made inside the residence, and this incident is not believed to be a random act, according to authorities. 

The case remains under investigation.
