PHOENIX — Detectives are investigating a shooting that left two dead and another seriously injured in south Phoenix, police said.

Police arrived to the area of 19th Avenue and Roeser Road before 3 a.m. on Saturday morning after reports of a shooting.

Officers located two adult males with at least one gunshot wound each, 19-year-old Elijah Sanchez and 38-year-old Lucio Lopez Segura. Sanchez was pronounced dead at the scene while Segura was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

A third adult male was located with at least one gunshot wound, and he was taken to the hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Police found a fourth male at the scene who was uninjured. Because he was determined to be involved, authorities detained the man and interviewed him before releasing him.

Detectives learned that prior to the shooting, an altercation broke out, resulting in two men losing their lives and leaving another in critical condition.

The investigation remains active.
