Police in Phoenix seek suspect in fatal shooting of leashed dog

PHOENIX – Police are looking for a suspect who allegedly shot and killed a dog in southwest Phoenix last week after the leashed pet growled at the man.

A woman was walking the dog around 11 p.m. on Dec. 27 near 79th Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road when the suspect approached them, the Phoenix Police Department said in a press release Thursday.

Police said that when the dog growled, the man allegedly pulled a handgun from his pocket, shot the animal, said he was sorry and walked away.

The suspect was described as a 5-foot, 5-inch Black male around 20 years old who weighs 140 pounds.
