Police in Gilbert arrest suspect in deadly attack on 73-year-old man

PHOENIX – Police in Gilbert arrested a suspect Monday in the death of a man found beaten and bloody in his home two weeks ago.

Jacob Samia, 32, was taken into custody and booked on suspicion of first-degree murder.

Frank Bernal, 73, died in a hospital after officers responded to an early-morning call Oct. 11 about criminal damage to a property near Warner and Cooper roads. They followed a trail of blood from the site to a nearby home, according to a press release.

Inside, officers found an unconscious Bernal with injuries generally associated with a beating.

Investigators did not say how they connected Samia to the crime.
