Chandler police reunite missing Mesa man with family

PHOENIX — The Chandler Police Department announced a missing Mesa man was reunited with his family on Saturday.

Police said they found him on Friday night. However, they needed the public’s help to identify him since he was unable to communicate in English.

Initial reports said the unidentified man may have had a speaking disability.

A few hours later, the Chandler Police Department announced the man had reunited with his family.

“We were able to determine that he spoke Chuukese,” police said. “A member of the Chuuk community was instrumental in helping us communicate with him.”

Chuukese is the primary language of the Caroline Islands, which are in the Pacific Ocean north of New Guinea.
