Husband, wife survive plane crash in northern Arizona

PHOENIX — A husband and wife survived a plane crash in northern Arizona on Monday morning, authorities said.

The couple was flying near Cathedral Rock in Sedona, according to the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO). The natural sandstone butte is one of Arizona’s most photographed sights.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of a plane crash around 8:30 a.m. and found that the two occupants were unharmed.

They were able to walk away from the crash after successfully deploying the Cirrus CAPS system, a parachute designed for the entire aircraft, according to YCSO.

Thanks to the system, the plane landed on the side of the mountain, leaving the husband and wife uninjured, YCSO said.
