PHOENIX — Cobra Arcade Bar in downtown Phoenix has been named one of the coolest video game bars in the country by a nationally-syndicated TV show.

According to The List, Cobra Arcade Bar is the place where older Phoenicians go to play games from their childhood, while younger people are drawn in by what they consider to be retro games.

The show also called attention to the bar’s funky vibe and murals painted by local artists.

Cobra Arcade Bar was joined on the list by Headquarters Beercade in Chicago and Recess Arcade Bar in Austin.

The Phoenix bar opened last year. It features about 60 arcade games at any one time, though General Manager Topher Bray told The List that Cobra Arcade Bar owns about 200 total games so they can rotate them.

The bar does not serve food and is only for those 21 and over.

Sounds like a great place. I grew up playing pinball and can rarely find a place to be another pinball wizard.

In the east valley, there's the Starfighter's Arcade. It's only open on weekends and in an industrial park across from Falcon Field. I believe it's ran by vintage game collectors. It's a lot of fun and they have pinball tourneys.
