Phoenix Zoo announces reopening dates for members, general public

PHOENIX — The Phoenix Zoo announced Friday they will be reopening their gates to the general public Sept. 19.

Members will be able to access the zoo during a special welcome back period between Sept. 14-18.

The zoo closed for a second time in July due to the coronavirus pandemic. It had been offering the Cruise the Zoo event in place of traditional access.

The zoo will be operating at a limited capacity and will require masks when entering the facility and where social distancing is not feasible, according to the zoo’s website.

Additionally, it has implemented height cleaning and sanitizing protocols and installed more than 50 hand sanitizing stations throughout the park.

Some experiences such the Monkey Village walk-thru, playground and splash pads will remain closed until a later date.

Stingray Bay, camel rides, Safari Cruiser and the carousel will be open.

Through the end of September, the zoo will be open daily from 7 a.m. to noon. Members will be able to enter at 6 a.m.

The zoo will be closed to foot traffic Sept. 25-27 during Cruise the Zoo.

Its hours will be extended in October to 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with members able to enter early at 8 a.m.
