PHOENIX – A Phoenix woman who was carrying a large knife around an apartment complex is in critical condition after being shot by police on Saturday, according to authorities.

Around 3:20 p.m., officers responded to a call near 12th Street and Osborn Road.

Officers found a 32-year-old woman holding a knife at the top of a staircase leading to two apartments.

Police asked the woman to drop the knife and when she did not comply, an officer shot her multiple times with a 40mm launcher, according to authorities.

The woman got up and started walking towards the officers, refusing to drop the knife.

One officer shot at the woman while another officer used their Taser on the woman, causing the woman to fall and drop her knife.

The Phoenix Fire Department took the woman to the hospital with critical injuries, but she is said to be in stable condition, according to Phoenix police.

No officers were injured during the incident.

An investigation remains ongoing, and no other details were made available.
