Phoenix weather reaches several milestones on Thanksgiving

PHOENIX — It’s been feeling noticeably cooler in the Valley lately, but Thursday was an exception.

The temperature crept up to nearly 90 degrees in Phoenix late in the afternoon, and a local record was set, according to the National Weather Service

A series of tweets from the NWS Phoenix show the progression of the Phoenix heat approaching a record, and then breaking it — along with tying another milestone.

Update: Today's high of 87 breaks the daily record of 86…set in 1950. The 40 degree spread (87/47) is the biggest since 6/4/78. #azwx

So not only did Thursday’s temperature of 87 degrees break the Nov. 27 record set 64 years ago, but the overall spread from high to low was the widest of any day since June 4, 1978. It also tied the warmest Thanksgiving on record.

Talk about a holiday to remember.

The Thursday high was only expected to be in the low-80s.

Friday is expected to have a high of 82 degrees with a low of 49.
