Flood advisory issued as rain, wind hit Phoenix metro area

Following blowing dust on the outskirts of the Phoenix area and windy conditions after sundown, rainstorms hit parts of the Valley on Wednesday night.

Following blowing dust on the outskirts of the Phoenix area and windy conditions after sundown, thunderstorms hit parts of the Valley on Wednesday night.

A flood advisory was issued before 10 p.m. for parts of the north Valley.

A portion North Scottsdale near D.C. Ranch received 0.91 inches of rainfall by 11 p.m.,  according to rain gauges. Additionally, 0.59 inches were recorded near Greenway Parkway and 7th Avenue, and also at Shea Boulevard and State Route 51.

More than half an inch fell in part of Peoria as well as in Scottsdale near McDowell Road and Loop 101.

Earlier, Guadalupe registered 0.35 inches of rain while 0.31 inches fell north of Deer Valley.

Causing the flood advisory, a large storm hit north of the north stretch of Loop 101; one rain gauge in Peoria recorded more than 0.1 of an inch by that point.

Elsewhere the Phoenix area, there were spot storms that popped up. North Scottsdale and parts of Tempe also received rain.

The storms accompanied a bit of lightning.

Before sundown, much of the Valley saw gusty winds.
