Midday Phoenix shooting leaves man dead, police searching for shooter

A deadly Phoenix shooting left a 48-year-old man dead Wednesday afternoon near McDowell Road and 59th Avenue. Police are searching for the gunman.

A 48-year-old man was killed in a west Phoenix shooting Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Officers with the Phoenix Police Department responded to a shooting call near McDowell Road and 59th Avenue just after 2:00 p.m.

They found the victim, Joshua Fernandez, who had been wounded by gunfire. Fernandez was brought to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Homicide detectives have not released any suspect information. They urge anyone with information about the incident to call 911 or submit an anonymous tip through Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS (948-6377) or 480-TESTIGO (837-8446) for Spanish speakers.
