Phoenix, Rio Reimagined team up for Salt River clean-up event

PHOENIX — The city of Phoenix and Rio Reimagined have teamed up for a Salt River clean-up event on Saturday.

The event is in collaboration with Arizona State University and the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality.

The event is being organized to clean up the Salt River area near 91st Avenue and Broadway Road in Tolleson that has been impacted by illegal dumping, according to a news release.

Rio Reimagined is a 2017 project started by ASU at the request of late-U.S. senator John McCain to restore Arizona’s Salt and Gila River corridor.

When does the Salt River clean-up event begin?

The clean-up event will start at 8:30 a.m. Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego and District 7 Councilmember Carlos Galindo-Elvira will be in attendance for speeches, with the clean-up efforts to follow.

Volunteers looking to participate in the event can sign up online. Volunteers must be ages 8 and up, with participants under 15 required to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
