Phoenix police: Single-vehicle collision leaves one dead

A fatal, single-vehicle collision occurred at 15th Avenue and Indian School Road on Saturday night, according to Phoenix police.

PHOENIX — A fatal, single-vehicle collision occurred at 15th Avenue and Indian School Road on Saturday night, according to Phoenix police.

The incident took place around 6:40 p.m.

It has also caused the closure of Indian School Road from 15th to 16th Avenues.

According to police, 28-year-old Danny Lopez Guerra was traveling eastbound on Indian School Road in a 2005 Honda Civic. For unknown reasons, the vehicle collided with a large palm tree and a block fence.

Police said that the crash broke off a fire hydrant which caused significant flooding in the area.

Lopez Guerra was was pronounced dead on the scene, police said.

Police say that speed may have been a factor.

The investigation is ongoing.
