Phoenix police make arrest in 1984 murder of young woman

PHOENIX — Police in Phoenix arrested a 67-year-old man suspected of being involved in the murder of a young woman whose naked body was found in an abandoned building in 1984.

David Kizziar was booked into a Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office jail Saturday morning on suspicion of first-degree murder and sexual assault.

Kizziar was taken into custody near 12th Avenue and Madison Street. He was identified as a suspect last month based on a DNA match.

In February 1984, police responding to a call about a possible fire near Third Avenue and McDowell Road. Instead, they found a trail of blood leading to the body of 22-year-old Aimee See.

They said See had blunt force trauma to her head, a telephone cord was wrapped around her neck and she likely had been dead for several days.

Investigators eventually were able to develop a profile of the suspect based on DNA collected from the scene.

They determined at the time of the murder that Kizziar lived about a mile from where See’s body was found.
