Phoenix police ID suspect in bomb threat investigation near Arizona Center

Phoenix police released the identity of a man arrested in connection with a bomb threat investigation near the downtown Arizona Center on Wednesday night.

PHOENIX — Phoenix police released the identity of a man arrested in connection with a bomb threat investigation near the downtown Arizona Center on Wednesday night.

The Phoenix Police Department named David Kalal, 57, as the suspect in the threat. He was booked into Maricopa County Jail on one count of weapons and explosives and one count of DUI.

No explosives were found at the site, police said in an email Thursday.

Officers were called to an area near the entertainment and shopping center at Third and Van Buren streets around 5:15 p.m. about a suspicious vehicle and a bomb threat, police said.

Police evacuated the AC Hotel, APS building and AMC theater, as well as restricted Fifth Street between Fillmore and Van Buren streets.

No other information was made available.
