Phoenix police: Hospital patient dies after visit from ‘suspicious person’

PHOENIX — Phoenix police are investigating the death of a patient at HonorHealth Deer Valley Medical Center.

Officers were dispatched to the hospital on Friday around 3 p.m. after receiving a call that a patient had died following a visit from a “suspicious person,” according to authorities.

The man told the hospital staff that he was visiting Brandon Werner, 41, and left shortly thereafter, according to Phoenix police.

Officers say that briefly after the visitor’s departure, nurses found Werner unresponsive and foaming from the mouth.

The medical professionals performed emergency life-saving actions, but Werner did not survive.

The actual cause of death will be determined by the medical examiner, authorities said.

The man seen leaving Werner’s room was described as an adult male wearing a white cap, multi-colored T-shirt and blue jeans.
