Phoenix police announce arrest in 2019 homicide, seek further help on case

PHOENIX — The Phoenix Police Department has arrested a 21-year-old man in connection with a 2019 homicide that occurred in west Phoenix.

Kevin Ramirez was taken into custody Jan. 21 on charges related to the murder of 18-year-old Ethan Derivera, police said.

The deadly incident occurred on Oct. 21, 2019, near the area of 75th Avenue and McDowell Road. Police responded to a call about a shooting and located Derivera sitting in the driver seat of a vehicle suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital but was later pronounced dead due to his injuries, according to police.

Detectives assigned to the case are still treating this as an active investigation despite the arrest of Ramirez.
