Phoenix motorcycle officer nearly struck by vehicle during traffic stop

PHOENIX — The Phoenix Police Department is searching for a suspect who reportedly tried to run over a motorcycle officer during a traffic stop on Monday morning.

The officer was uninjured at the incident that occurred near Seventh Street and Southern Avenue around 7 a.m.

While attempting to initiate a traffic stop on a speeding vehicle, the suspect continued driving and turned into a dirt parking lot, police said.

The vehicle then turned around and started driving toward the officer, who put his motorcycle down in order to avoid being struck by the suspect’s vehicle, authorities said.

Officers found the unoccupied vehicle near Seventh Street and Camelback Road, and are now working to identify and locate the suspect.

No other information was made immediately available.

The investigation is ongoing.
