PHOENIX — A Phoenix Mexican restaurant claimed the top spot for Yelp’s best restaurant in the country for 2022 as reviewed by the company’s users, with four other Valley places also making the list.

Cocina Madrigal, a Latinx father-and-son-owned restaurant, holds a 4.5 star rating out of five based on 2,402 reviews on the website.

The restaurant at 4044 S. 16th Street serves up a menu featuring Oaxaca and Mexico City favorites, including fundido, beef birria enchiladas and churros with crème anglaise.

A Yelper featured in the ranking article recommended the barbacoa green chili enchiladas, saying they were top-notch, while his wife ordered the crispy salmon and was just as pleased.

People can swing on by Yelp’s top restaurant Sundays through Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

Those looking for some barbecue can try WoodBarn BBQ in Queen Creek, which came in at No. 23 on Yelp’s list.

The restaurant located at 23670 S. Power Road has 4.5 stars based on 100 reviews and is open from noon to 7 p.m. each day.

Also owned by a father and son, people will find a menu that includes slow-smoked brisket, ribs, chili, pork, sausage, turkey, five-cheese macaroni and cheese and potato salad.

Ever wanted to drink alcohol out of a bathtub with bubbles and rubber ducks? You can do that at Bitter & Twisted Cocktail Parlour in Phoenix, which was ranked at No. 61 on Yelp’s list.

The cocktail bar at 1 W. Jefferson Street serves up American fare with a unique cocktail menu Tuesdays through Thursdays from 4 p.m. to midnight and from 4 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

In addition to the Duck Bath Punch that is served in a mini-bathtub with Hendrick’s gin blended with Amaro Sibona, Grand Poppy and a house-made Earl Grey tea, people can also enjoy food options such as shrimp chimichurri, truffled mac and cheese, and charred grilled octopus in a Moroccan chorizo broth.

Bitter & Twisted Cocktail Parlour has four stars out of five based on 1,377 reviews.

A couple of Phoenix bars round out the list of Yelp’s best places to eat this year, with CAPS Sports Grill coming in at No. 75 and Wicked Brews, Bites & Spirits placing No. 87.

CAPS Sports Grill, located at 1721 W. Rose Garden Lane and open Wednesdays through Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and noon to 8 p.m. on Sundays, has a four star rating based on 249 reviews.

People can enjoy traditional favorites like the restaurant’s highly-rated chicken wings, chili-cheese fries, pizza, burgers and a grilled cheese that features three kinds of cheese on garlic-Parmesan sourdough.

Wicked Brews, Bites & Spirits is known for its burgers, beers and wings, holding a four star rating based on 122 reviews.

The restaurant at 4921 E. Ray Road is open Mondays through Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., 11 a.m. to midnight on Fridays, 9 a.m. to midnight on Saturdays and 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sundays.

There are also unique items on the menu, such as duck wings and a bison burger.

Yelp reached out to its users and asked for their favorite restaurants to make the 9th annual list, with the company then ranking each spot by the number of submissions, ratings, reviews and geographic representation, according to the article.
