Phoenix man falls to his death on trail in Grand Canyon National Park

PHOENIX — A Phoenix man plunged to death on Tuesday morning from the South Kaibab Trail inside Grand Canyon National Park.

Park officials said in a press release that 23-year-old Jaiquan Carter fell 80 feet while day hiking above the Black Bridge on the 7.1-mile-long trail.

Last year, 13 people fell to their death inside the national park.

The National Park Service is investigating the incident alongside the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The trail is extremely icy in winter, the park noted on its website.

No additional information is available at this time.

It was at least the second death on the trail this year, after a California woman died from heat stroke in June.
