Phoenix homeless shelter receives more than $1 million grant to expand services

PHOENIX — A Phoenix shelter is receiving more than $1 million in efforts to support families experiencing homelessness.

UMOM New Day Centers received a $1.5 million grant from The Bob & Renee Parsons Foundation that will be spread out over three years, according to a news release.

“We are deeply grateful to The Bob & Renee Parsons Foundation for standing with the families we serve,” CEO Monique Lopez said. “This unrestricted grant gives us the ability to break down barriers, stabilize families in crisis and open the door to long-term opportunity for thousands.”

The grant will go toward efforts to combat homelessness and allow UMOM to reduce waitlists, provide safe shelter and offer families support services.

“It hits me hard to think about children sleeping in cars or on the streets,” Bob Parsons said. “UMOM embraces families at one of the toughest times of their lives, giving them the dignity, stability and the support they need to move forward.”

UMOM provides several services to families in need in Maricopa County, including emergency shelter, affordable housing and job and support services such as job training, health care and healthy food access.
