Police have arrested a 53-year-old man in a hit-and-run crash that killed a pedestrian in west Phoenix last week.
Nivyabandi Augustin was arrested Tuesday morning and booked early Wednesday into a Maricopa County jail on one felony count of fatal hit-and-run. He is being held on a $75,000 bond, according to jail records.
Augustin is back in a Maricopa County Superior court on Monday.
Officers responded around 6:30 p.m. Friday to a report of a vehicle hitting a pedestrian near 32nd Avenue and Indian School Road.
A 64-year-old man was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name has not been released.
Police said the man was crossing Indian School Road mid-block, outside a crosswalk, when two vehicles struck him. Both drivers left the scene.
License plate reader cameras captured information on the vehicle investigators believe Augustin was driving as it fled, police said. Police did not say whether the second driver has been identified.
The investigation is ongoing.
